The Directorate General of Immigration's e-VOA page lists, under "You must", the obligation to "Be financially sufficient during your stay in Indonesia" — an explicit condition of the visa rather than a document to submit. Nothing states how it is tested or what evidence satisfies it. Note also that the document list on the same page is introduced with "such as", so it is expressly not exhaustive.

Dry season proper, with noticeably cooler and less humid days. Excellent for diving and for the volcano treks on Java.

Where you go changes the answer

How Indonesia's regions differ, and when it matters

The figures below are measured at Denpasar in Bali, which is where the overwhelming majority of Indian visitors go — but Indonesia spans more than 5,000km and three time zones, and one station cannot describe it. Bali and the islands east of it (Lombok, Komodo, Flores) have a sharp dry season from roughly April to October, which is what the numbers show. Jakarta, Sumatra and Kalimantan sit closer to the equator and are wetter and more evenly rainy through the year, with Jakarta's wettest months in January and February. If you are heading to Java for Borobudur and Yogyakarta, the dry season still broadly applies. If you are going to Sumatra or Sulawesi, check separately — the pattern can invert.

What it costs

Excludes international flights. Our estimate, not an official figure — reviewed 16 August 2026. A typical trip runs 714 days.

Where to go

  • Ubud, Bali

Bali's cultural centre, surrounded by the Tegallalang rice terraces, the Monkey Forest and a dense concentration of yoga retreats and craft villages. Cooler and greener than the coast.

  • Seminyak, Canggu and the southern beaches

Where most of Bali's beach clubs, surf breaks and restaurants are. Canggu is the younger and scruffier of the two; Seminyak is more polished and more expensive.

  • Nusa Penida

The cliff-edged island off Bali's southeast coast, reached by fast boat in about 45 minutes. Kelingking Beach and manta ray snorkelling are the draws. Roads are rough — hire a driver.

  • Borobudur and Prambanan, Java

The world's largest Buddhist temple and a vast ninth-century Hindu complex, both UNESCO sites, both near Yogyakarta. Sunrise slots at Borobudur are limited and must be booked ahead.

  • Komodo National Park

Komodo dragons, pink-sand beaches and some of the best diving in Asia, reached by liveaboard or day boat from Labuan Bajo on Flores.

  • Mount Bromo, Java

A volcanic caldera crossed on foot or by jeep, most often visited for sunrise from the Penanjakan viewpoint. Genuinely cold before dawn — bring a jacket.

  • Gili Islands and Lombok

Three small car-free islands off Lombok, with turtles on the reefs and no motorised traffic. Lombok itself has Mount Rinjani and quieter beaches than Bali.

The detail

Conditions in full, fees, entries, and extending your stay
  • India is named on Indonesian Immigration's official list of countries eligible for visa on arrival — item 29 of 97. India is not on the separate visa-free list, so you cannot simply turn up without paying.
  • You have two ways to do this: buy the visa on arrival at the airport when you land, or buy an electronic one (e-VOA) in advance at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. The price is the same. The e-VOA saves you queueing at the counter.
  • An e-VOA bought in advance "must be used within 90 days from the date of issue", so do not buy it too early.
  • You need a passport valid for at least six months and a ticket out of Indonesia.
  • Visa on arrival is only issued at designated airports, seaports and land crossings — not every border post. Check your arrival point before you book if you are entering anywhere other than Jakarta or Bali.
  • ⚠️ Going to Bali? There is a separate Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person, which has nothing to do with your visa. It is paid once per trip, before you leave Indonesia, and can be paid online at lovebali.baliprov.go.id or at counters at the airport and port.
  • The fee is set by Government Regulation No. 28 of 2019, so it changes by regulation rather than drifting.
  • Indonesian legislators asked immigration in July 2026 to consider granting visa-free entry to Indian nationals among others. That is a proposal under consideration, not policy — as of this check India still needs a visa on arrival.
Extending your stay
Possible. The visa on arrival can be extended once, for a further 30 days, taking you to 60 days in total. Immigration is explicit that it can be extended "for only once" and that it "cannot be converted to another stay permit type" — so if you want to stay longer than 60 days, or change your purpose of visit, you need a different visa applied for before you travel.
Number of entries
Not stated by official sources.
Visa fee
IDR 500,000.
Cost of extending
  • Up to 60 days total from arrival — IDR 500,000

Charged by the destination in IDR, at the counter that grants the extension.
