Where to go

  • Souq Waqif

Doha's restored central market, and the one part of the city that feels old. Spice and falcon souqs, shisha cafés and Qatari food, best after dark when the heat drops and it fills up.

  • Museum of Islamic Art

    I. M. Pei's last major building, on its own island in the bay, holding one of the strongest collections of Islamic art anywhere. Worth the trip for the building alone.

  • National Museum of Qatar

Jean Nouvel's interlocking-discs building, modelled on a desert rose. Tells the country's story from pearl diving to gas, and is more engaging than most national museums.

  • Khor Al Adaid (the Inland Sea)

A UNESCO-recognised site where the sea runs deep into the desert, reachable only by 4x4 across the dunes. The standard half-day trip from Doha, and the reason to visit between November and March rather than in summer.

  • Katara Cultural Village

A purpose-built cultural quarter with an amphitheatre, galleries, mosques and a public beach. Where most of Doha's festivals and concerts happen.

The detail

Conditions in full, fees, entries, and extending your stay
  • India is on the Ministry of Interior's list of 47 nationalities granted a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival — item 26 of 47. The MOI states: "The following nationalities can enter and stay in Qatar for 30 days with this visa. It is valid for multiple entries and extendable for another 30 days... It is free of charge."
  • It is genuinely multiple-entry within its validity, so you can leave and return. The visa is stamped into the passport on arrival with the entry date and expiry.
  • ⚠️ Health insurance is mandatory, not advisory. The Ministry of Interior states: "A valid health insurance policy from insurance companies registered with the Ministry of Public Health is required to enter Qatar." It must be from a company on the Ministry of Public Health's registered list — a general Indian travel policy may not qualify. Cover can be bought on arrival if you do not have it.
  • ⚠️ Two official Qatari pages disagree on passport validity. The MOI page for this specific visa says "6 month passport validity"; the MOI on-arrival overview and Qatar Tourism both say three months. This record uses six months, the stricter figure, because a passport that satisfies six also satisfies three.
  • Qatar Tourism now calls this "visa-free entry", noting "Visa-free entry is now the new term defining previously 'visa on arrival'. Nothing changed except the name." It is recorded here as a visa on arrival because that is what the Ministry of Interior — the authority that actually grants it — still calls it, and because it is stamped at the border rather than waived. Expect to see both terms.
  • The Ministry of Interior's general visa conditions page notes that "For some countries, hotel reservation, cash or credit card is also required", without saying which. The conditions published for this particular visa list only passport validity and an onward ticket, so nothing further is asserted here — but carrying a card and a booking costs nothing.
  • India is NOT eligible for the Qatar–Oman Joint Tourist Visa. That visa covers both countries for 30 days on one entry, but Qatar Tourism's list of eligible nationalities is 37 countries and India is not among them. If you are combining Qatar and Oman, you need separate entry for each.
  • All rules here are the Ministry of Interior's, and it states that they "are subject to change without notice".
Extending your stay
Possible. The Ministry of Interior states this visa is "extendable for another 30 days", giving 60 days in total. The extension is applied for after you arrive, through the Ministry's visit visa extension service. No official page we could read publishes the extension fee, so none is listed here — ask at the time.
