Where to travel in December on an Indian passport

For ordinary Indian passports, tourism travel only.

December is the most expensive month to travel badly. It is peak season almost everywhere worth going in the region, the winter break fixes most people’s dates, and both flights and hotels are priced for a demand curve that peaks around Christmas and does not come down until the second week of January.

Everything therefore turns on booking early, and booking early turns on knowing the visa answer first. A December trip planned in October is a comfortable one; the same trip planned in the last week of November is a scramble through the busiest processing queue of the year. The rule for each destination below was read from the destination’s own government or embassy source, and the country page shows the date we read it.

If your dates can move at all, moving them earlier is worth more than changing destination. The November page is linked at the foot of this one.

Of the 25 countries we have verified so far, 16 rate December good or excellent. More are being added as each one is checked against its government’s own sources — this is not yet every country in the world, and a destination missing from this page has usually not been researched yet rather than been ruled out.

Best in December

Peak season in December: Bahrain, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Laos, Maldives, Mauritius, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, UAE and Vietnam. Expect higher prices and more people, and book earlier than you otherwise would — this is about crowds and cost, not weather.

Verified, but December is not their season
